LEHIGH COUNTY CONFERENCE OF CHURCHES

Mission of the Campbell Lectures on Christian Unity
Approved September 6, 2006

In obedience to the Lord Jesus Christ, the Lehigh County Conference of Churches provides the Robert K Campbell Lectures on Christian Unity.  Our mission is to inform and educate member congregations, other Christian communities and the wider public of the lasting significance and enduring importance of Christian Unity as a gift from the Holy Spirit and in fulfillment of the prayer of our Lord Jesus that “they may be one.” (John 17).  The Campbell Lectures give visible expression to the Unity we already have and explore the inseparable imperatives of Mission and Unity inherent in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

This mission is accomplished through an annual lecture (generally set for the Thursday before Passion Sunday in the Western Tradition).  The intention of the Endowed Fund is to cultivate and inform the intellectual, ecumenical and spiritual formation of participants so that ever increasing expressions of Christian unity may emerge.  The Lectures Committee, named by the Lehigh County Conference of Churches, will choose as guest Lecturers those who will provide a focused study on and practical expressions of living Christian Unity.  The lectures are to be supplemented by appropriate fellowship, prayer and worship along with continuing public dialogue and conversation as deemed appropriate.

Local and regional participation in the Campbell Lectures is to be systematically cultivated under the direction and support of the Conference of Churches.  An on-line Archives and internet access are maintained for wider participation.
